Bowie ’74 is very much a story of halves. The first half was the dying flame of glam and the boiling down of the failed 1984 project into the Diamond Dogs album. The second shifted the tour and focus to Bowie’s newfound soul inspirations and the forthcoming Young Americans. Personally, this latter section doesn’t work as well for me. Something about the two forces doesn’t gel as well as it could. There are definate highlights and era-only performances to be found though. “Footstompin'” is very rare, as well as the Beatles cover intro of “Love Me Do.” Also, the Young Americans songs were never really pulled back into rotation (besides the hit singles), so it’s nice to hear them live. Enjoy!
