What a great album! Since I was introduced to the Stranglers, I’m constantly impressed by their interesting blend of genres that really works. They’re kinda punky, but also melodic. They’re New Wave, but there’s also hints of early psych in there. The seventies genuinely had some cool moments. Really must be heard to be believed.
Even though the album is labeled IV, it’s called Rattus Norvegicus, and it’s actually their debut. As good a place as any to start on their catalougue. It blasts out of the gates roaring, and really doesn’y let up. “(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)” is the highltight just a shade above a few of the other tracks (“Sometimes”, “Hanging Around”, and “Down In The Sewer”).
