Connery returns! What a return too! The movie is as crazy but perfect as ever, with a theme song to match.
Speaking of returns, Shirley Bassey, having last done Goldfinger, produces yet another classic theme here. Sultry, epic, the song is simply amazing.
Not that there was is any particular measure of timelessness, but it is interesting to see a song covered for a new generation. In 2008, the Arctic Monkeys did just that.
I wouldn’t say the cover is better, but maybe equals.
Just like songs covered, Bond changes actors once again after this film. Not even counting the antics of the non-Eon Casino Royale, between 1967 and 1973, three actors portrayed James Bond. Crazy to think, really. A strange time of instability between a fantastically solid beginning and a very different but immensely fun era.
