There are arguably five absolutely essential ‘Ziggy Stardust’ performances. Three are commercially available (1971/06/03 on Bowie at the Beeb, 1972/10/20 on Live Santa Monica ’72, and 1973/07/03- Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture). Of the other two, is the resurrection/final farewell of the “1980 Floor Show”, and this, also known as “Starman Over The Rainbow”.

Through static and somewhat tinny audience recording, is one of the best Bowie performances of the era, and arguably, his career. Seriously, brave the sound for the treasures within! The tape starts with the nice PA “Ode to Joy” before opening with the rare “Lady Stardust”. A standard ”72 Ziggy’ set follows, until “Five Years”. This version has an extended ‘heartbeat’ preface. The next surprise comes with “Starman”, containing altered lyrics for the theater (and bootleg title). The last caveat that mars enjoyment, is that “Moonage Daydream” fades out, and the finale is cut. If you have a more complete tape, I would love a copy!
